The Orchard Land Trust
The Orchard Land Trust, a not-for-profit company, purchased Trevalon, 18 acres of south-facing arable and pasture at Herodsfoot, Liskeard, SE Cornwall on June 21st 2005. We have just began our organic conversion process by registering with the Soil Association. Trading as Trevalon Organic Vegetables we have wholesale orders for vegetables beginning June
2006 and are also proposing our own vegetable box scheme.
We intend to erect polytunnels and build a machinery barn and vegetable packing barn which will be constructed using local sustainable materials. The construction of the barns is supported by Cornwall Sustainable Buildings Trust and will be run as subsidised courses in spring and summer 2006. We are also intending to make a planning application soon for a residential dwelling for a key agricultural worker.
We are actively looking for people who would like to get involved with the project and promote it as a community supported agriculture scheme.
We also envisage that education will be an important element to the project and intend to have open days and visits. We are also looking for people who would like to become involved in the educational element, in particular anyone who may be interested in attending a DEFRA farm education accreditation course in May 2006.
If you live in SE Cornwall and have the time and energy to get involved with the production of organic vegetables for the local market and are interested in promoting greater community involvement in food production please contact us.
Orchard Land Trust is also a member of, Permaculture Association (Britain), Soil Association, Land Heritage Trust, Cornwall Sustainable Buildings Trust and The Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens.
